TEN Footscray City College students will jet to Sydney next month to hone their acting skills alongside Kevin Spacey.
The students from Years 8, 10, 11 and 12 have been accepted into Richard’s Rampage, a program run by the Kevin Spacey Association.
Only 115 students across Australia were selected to take part, with students picked from only two Victorian schools.
The group will travel to Sydney on 7 December to complete a three-hour workshop at The Australian Theatre For Young People, followed that night by a viewing of Shakespeare’s Richard III at the Lyric Theatre, with Kevin Spacey in the title role.
Afterwards the students will get a chance to pick Kevin Spacey’s brain in an exclusive question and answer session with Mr Spacey.
Kevin Spacey has won two Academy Awards and in 2003 took on the role as Artistic Director of The Old Vic Theatre Company in London, a position he still holds.
Teacher Emily Unt Wan said the trip was a tremendous coup for the school’s drama department and a fitting reward for the hard work put in by the students.
Year 12 student Camille Fitzgerald added: “It’s good that we get to finish school doing this … it’s exciting.”
Other Footscray City College students selected are Darby Turnbull, Molly-Rose Krausgrill, Edie Gray, Luana Baird, Patrick Tuikaba, Kingsley O’Connor, Darcy Fagan-Coleman, Karla Pardy and Leo Palmer.
