MELTON City Council, along with its project partners, was honoured at the annual national
2014 LGPro Awards for Excellence held in Melbourne last Thursday night.
The council won the Community Partnerships category for its Engaging Children in Decision-Making: A Guide to Consulting with Children initiative.
This innovative resource is a practical guide that affirms the importance of including the voice of children in the planning, designing and evaluating of strategies, environments and programs.
City of Melton Mayor, Cr Bob Turner said the council was thrilled to win the award.
“This award is fantastic recognition of the Engaging Children in Decision-Making Guide, which was developed by a partnership of professionals, committed to embedding the voices of children within their workplaces and consequently, into their communities,” he said.
“On behalf of Council I would like to take this opportunity to thank LGPro and their sponsors, for officially recognising this innovative initiative, and also our dedicated project partners: the City Councils of Ballarat, Brimbank, Maribyrnong and Wyndham, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and Kurunjang Primary School, for their support and dedication.”
The Engaging Children in Decision-Making: A Guide to Consulting with Children initiative was a joint winner along with Yarra City Council’s Leisure Community Memberships Program.
Also shortlisted for the LGPro Awards, under the Sustainability Initiative category, was the iconic Melton Library and Learning Hub, a $20 million development right in the heart of Melton township.
This facility has 5-Star Green Star accreditation, providing thecommunity with a certified environmentally sustainable asset, and is evidence of how Melton City Council continues to deliver quality infrastructure for the benefit of the whole community now, and into the future.
The awards are held annually to acknowledge exceptional projects, programs and services being offered by Local Government.
