ST Mary’s Primary School in Altona has traded a bunch of coupons for some well-deserved class resources.
The school participated in the 2013 Woolworths Earn and Learn Program.
The program enabled schools to earn additional educational equipment by rewarding members of the school community who shop at Woolworths with coupons.
Last week the school exchanged their coupons for class resources including maths equipment and spelling aids, with Safeway store manager Greg Giarrusso delivering the well-deserved products.
St Mary’s principal Jim Sheedy said it was a great way for the school community to fundraise without imposing on families financially.
“We looked at it and thought it was a good source for us that the community could access easily without asking people to put their hands in their pockets.”
Schools get to choose how they redeem their Woolworths Earn and Learn Points from an extensive product catalogue covering all aspects of the curriculum.
“We got mainly maths and hands on equipment for the kids which really supplemented our resources fantastically well.”
Madeleine Grace from the school said students will benefit from the extra resources.
“These are very useful for teachers in the classroom and makes learning interesting and fun for the students,” she said.
More than 40,000 pieces of equipment was given to schools in 2013 with 13,145 school groups involved in the program that benefited 2.7 million students across Australia.
