HOBSONS Bay City Council is calling all hands on deck to help make the municipality sparkle during its annual Clean Up Australia Day event.
In 2013 more than 550,300 volunteers across sites removed an estimated 16,150 tonnes of rubbish from 7,341 sites across Australia.
This year the council’s Clean Up Australia Day will be held on 2 March and are calling on volunteers to make it bigger and better. The local clean-up will be held at McCormack Park in Laverton between 10am and noon.
A free community barbecue will be held after the event to reward all involved and celebrate the clean-up efforts.
Hobsons Bay City Council mayor Sandra Wilson said Clean Up Australia Day was the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and help clean up local parks and waterways.
“Clean Up Australia Day 2014 is your chance to put yourself in the picture and join hundreds of thousands of volunteers who will take their white and yellow bags and don their gloves to clean up their local community.”
Cr Wilson said the day was also a good opportunity to think about how we can reduce our impact on the environment.
Registrations are now open to join the team in 2014.
