AT Etihad Stadium and in front of over 20,000 people, Lachlan Hunter made his debut for the Western Bulldogs last week.
The former Western Jet was drafted using the father/son rule at the end of the 2012 season after impressing throughout his TAC Cup career.
Hunter played six games for the Bulldogs’ VFL affiliate Williamstown to start the season with a near best on ground performance against Essendon in round 10 forcing Bulldogs’ coach Brendan McCartney to give him the call-up.
Speaking at his press conference before the match, McCartney delivered the good news.
“There will probably be a couple of changes and more than likely we will bring in a first-gamer,” he said.
“We are going to play young Lachie Hunter, which is terrific.
“He has been in great form and he is the fourth in that batch from that draft which we are really excited about and we think we have found a really good player.”
McCartney flagged a possible move into the midfield for Hunter in the future but expected him to start his career closer to goal.
“I think he will be a midfielder in time, (he is) probably more suited to playing forward at the moment,” he said.
“He is very creative, understands the game and when the ball is near him, good things happen. We are looking forward to him debuting and going okay.”
The rising star was more than okay, collecting 19 disposals and kicking a goal despite his side going on to lose by 60 points.
