THREE women from the West are teaming up to strike out cancer.
Taylors Lakes gym owner Marilyn Zukalski and Hillside gym owner Joanne Oliveira are hosting a Girls’ Night In with AMF Bowling Watergardens manager Sylvia Stevens next month.
An initiative of the Cancer Council, Girls’ Night In encourages people to get together and raise money for research into cancers that affect women, such as breast or cervical cancer.
Marilyn nursed her brother through throat cancer and saw the daily toll it took on him and the people in his life.
“Most people are touched by cancer in their life,” Marilyn said.
“It’s gut-wrenching.”
She said many members of her and Joanne’s Curves gyms were women who themselves had cancer or were in remission.
Sylvia said the Girls’ Night In would also provide a “real party atmosphere”, with bowling, laser tag, games, raffles, market stalls and entertainment.
“It’s a social night to meet new people and have a bit of fun for a good cause as well,” Sylvia said.
The trio are hoping to raise more than $2000 for cancer and are also looking for businesses to sponsor the night or donate a raffle prize.
The Girls’ Night In will be held on Friday 12 October at AMF Bowling at Watergardens Shopping Centre.
