SAVE Williamstown is looking forward to community consultation regarding the Nelson Place rezoning, but is still appealing for more transparency.
An information session for the potential rezoning and redevelopment of the former Port Phillip Woollen Mill site will take place at the Williamstown Town Hall on 11 February.
The proposal, known as Amendment C75, involves redeveloping the industrial land to use as a residential area.
The council refused to support the original development concept and is now awaiting a revised proposal from the proponent.
“This is an important opportunity for council to listen to some of the creative ideas local residents have about using the site to look after community needs and protect our identity,” Mr Moase said.
He said Save Williamstown was also seeking to have an observer at a planned industry stakeholder meeting on the site and was waiting to hear from the Minister as to whether they’d be able to attend.
Williamstown Ward councillor Angela Altair said residents should attend the session and as council was the responsible planning authority for the proposal, it’s council’s duty to reach the most beneficial outcome for Hobsons Bay.
“The information session will give residents the opportunity to speak to Council officers about the application and find out what the next step in the process is,” she said.
Hobsons Bay mayor Bill Tehan said community input into the decision was vital.
“If you want to find out more about the proposal, come along and speak to one of our officers.”
The community information session will be held at the Williamstown Town Hall Ballroom, 104 Ferguson St, Williamstown.
Residents can attend any time between 4pm and 7pm.
