ALTONA Magic is looking for an increase in junior numbers in the lead up to the new soccer season.
The club is preparing to apply for a spot in Football Federation Victoria’s revamped soccer competition in 2014 and hopes to become the destination of choice for promising juniors.
Altona club secretary Zoran Milenkovski said the Magic want to hear from any interested juniors between the ages of seven and 18.
“Historically our club has been a powerhouse in Victorian football, winning five VPL Championships,” Milenkovski said.
“We are looking at entering the FFV competition to allow players and juniors to use Altona Magic as a stepping stone to bigger and better things for their future. For example, if they desire to become A-League players.”
Altona offers junior training on Tuesday and Thursday nights, with more information available by emailing the club at altonamagic@hotmail.com or calling 0411 023 661.
The club is also holding an open day on Sunday 24 February at the Paisley Park Complex in Altona North.
As well as trying to develop juniors, Milenkovski said another focus of the club is to create a positive and enjoyable environment for the next generation of star players.
“Not only are we looking to attract junior players but one of the missions at our club is to offer the positive benefits soccer brings to the community,” he said.
“It allows parents to engage the kids and keep them away from the challenges kids face growing up.
“If they go on to become soccer players, that is just a bonus.”
Altona Magic is also hoping to hear from any women interested in playing at the club in 2013.
