Hospital facelift, thanks to volunteers

WILLIAMSTOWN Hospital is in the process of undergoing a much-needed refurbishment- courtesy of the tireless work of local volunteers.
Thanks to the hard work of the volunteer team at the Williamstown Hospital Opportunity Shop, the installation of new blinds in the Gem Ward and lower and upper wards is currently underway, along with a repainting of the Gem Ward.
More than $80,000 have been allocated for this project from funds raised by the Williamstown Hospital Opportunity Shop volunteers during the past year.
The blinds will vastly improve the privacy of patients and the colour scheme chosen for the blinds was selected after consultation with nursing staff and project workers who are skilled in working with elderly patients and those patients who require an extended stay in hospital.
This process was also undertaken when selecting colours for the painting of the Gem Ward.
“We hope this work will create a calmer environment for both the patients and staff,” Western Health chief executive, Associate Professor Alex Cockram said.
“The time and effort the volunteers give to the Opportunity Shop is amazing and very much appreciated, not only by the staff at Western Health but the wider Williamstown community.”
Associate Professor Cockram hosted an afternoon tea for the Williamstown Hospital volunteer team last week as a thank you for their efforts.
