THE 2013 season will be a special one for the Caroline Springs Football Club, which will celebrate its 10th year in the Western Region Football League. In that time, the Lakers have expanded from two junior teams in their inaugural year to fielding sides in every junior and senior division.
President Dean Ellis said it has been great to see the club grow over the years.
“The community got together around 2002 with the schools to get the team together,” he said.
“The first competition was under 10’s in 2003 and I think they had about one or two sides in that first year.”
While the first 10 years have been enjoyed thoroughly at the club, Ellis and his off-field team are planning to make the future even better.
The Lakers have both short and long-term goals, which they are hoping to implement, starting as early as this season.
“Our goal for this year is to try and make finals,” Ellis said.
“That is a hard ask but we are doing everything we can to at least make finals.
“In another five years who knows, it could be Division One but we want to make sure we don’t go up there until we are ready.
“There is no point going up there and winning the Division Two flag and then getting smashed every week once you’re there. We want to make sure things are stable so the club doesn’t struggle.”
Caroline Springs will be holding a registration day on Wednesday 6 March at 6pm at the Caroline Springs club rooms located on the parade.
The season launch will take place at the Sunshine Golf Club on Thursday 4 April.
The club is encouraging members of the community to attend and support the Lakers while any new players are also welcome.
With 10 years of history already in the books, Ellis recalled a number of highlights that stuck out for the Caroline Springs faithful.
“I wasn’t on the committee at the time but the first grand final that the club won in the under 14’s was a great moment,” he said.
“The first senior game is also something that will always stick in my mind. It was a great time for the club and we are all really proud of it.”
