MELTON book worms will soon have the perfect place to get stuck into a good novel or enjoy innovative classes as the Melton Library and Learning Hub nears completion.
City of Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik, who visited the site last week, said she was pleased with the progress.
“The construction site is still a hive of activity, but it’s definitely starting to look and feel like a library,” Cr Majdlik said.
“Over the next couple of months the construction of the car park, footpaths and landscaping will take place and the glass facade, roof canopy and raised access floor will be completed.”
The Melton Library and Learning Hub is on track to be completed by late April and an official opening is planned for the end of May.
“The Hub will be a state-of-the-art, one-of-a kind facility that each and every Melton resident can proudly call their own.”
The facility will boast meeting and learning spaces, a cafe, public computers, wireless connectivity, a teen lounge, maternal and child health suites, a family history research area, and an extensive collection of books, DVDs, and magazines.
The building, which has a focus on environmental sustainability and will have a five star green environmental rating, will cost more than $20 million to build.
