A touch of Bollywood comes to town

By Cameron Weston
THE vibrant, exotic colours of India will fill the Williamstown Town Hall on Saturday, at a Bollywood-themed fund raising ball for the Williamstown Hospital.
Among the many events scheduled for the night are a charity auction, prizes for the best dressed man and woman, live music, and renowned cartoonist Weg will be on hand to draw caricatures of revellers.
Funds raised will go towards buying equipment for the new emergency department, unveiled last month by Premier and Member for Williamstown Steve Bracks.
Hospital spokesman Michael Sinclair said the annual event was a good chance for hospital staff to mingle with the community and was an important source of extra revenue.
“It injects a bit of money into the emergency department, which has just been revamped.
“Every little bit helps with medical equipment because it is so expensive.”
Williamstown Hospital has been performing well recently, according to the ‘Your Hospitals’ report released by the State Government.
The hospital treated an additional 380 patients last year, a 10 per cent increase, and an extra 55 patients in its emergency department.
The hospital also met a key performance benchmark, treating 100 per cent of the highest priority emergency cases (Category1) immediately on arrival.
