Brooklyn boundary

RESIDENTS living on the border between Altona North and Brooklyn have been unsuccessful in their attempts to have the suburb boundary moved.
Petitioners wanted the boundary re-drawn so that properties in Brooklyn bounded by Primula Ave, Lynch Rd and the Westgate Freeway would become part of Altona North.
However, current boundaries will remain in place on advice from the Registrar of Geographic Names, which found that the proposed move “does not appear to demonstrate sufficient justification that it is in the public interest”, according to council documents.
Hobsons Bay City Council received the petition, carrying 97 signatures, at a meeting on 12 December last year and last week voted to accept the Registrar’s recommendation.
Petitioners claimed that they were not consulted when suburb boundaries were re-drawn in 1999, and voiced concern that properties were devalued when they become part of Brooklyn and not Altona North.
