A 25-YEAR-old Williamstown North man was arrested in Sydney on Thursday in connection with anti-terrorism raids carried out on Melbourne and Sydney last Tuesday.
Izzydeen Atik appeared in a Sydney court on Friday charged with being a member of a terrorist organisation.
New South Wales Counter Terrorism Coordination Command, which was in possession of a Victorian arrest warrant, stopped a vehicle in Guildford, west of Sydney, and took Mr Atik, who was a passenger, into custody on Thursday evening. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Sydney Police Centre.
Mr Atik appeared in Sydney’s Central Local Court on Friday. Victorian authorities are expected to apply for his extradition to Melbourne.
Police media would not say whether a raid was made on his home in Williamstown North, when he arrived in Sydney or how he got there.
