Compo claim caught out

AN ALBION man has been fined after defrauding the TAC out of more than $12,000.
The 65-year-old pleaded guilty to the crime in the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court recently.
The senior citizen returned to work while receiving ‘loss of earnings’ benefits from the TAC from September 2009 through to April last year.
The court found the man guilty of fraudulently obtaining a benefit contrary to section 116 of Transport Accident Act 1986 and sentenced him without conviction.
The Albion resident, who has already paid back the compensation amount he received, was ordered to pay a fine of $1000 and $500 for legal costs.
A TAC spokesperson said the organisation took fraud seriously and if they received evidence of misconduct, would exercise their “strong legislative powers to investigate and prosecute” offenders.
