Dog days in Brimbank

By Alesha Capone
PET dogs in Sunshine and Albion have a good reason to wag their tales this week.
According to a pawclub. com.au survey, pet owners living in the area love their pooches more than other people in Brimbank do.
The nation-wide survey asked more than 80,000 dog owners a variety of questions including how often they took their pets walking, out to socialise with other canines, to the vet and how often they were groomed.
The owners were also asked whether they spent more time with their friends, family and partner or their dog.
The nation’s average ‘dog love’ score was recorded at 71 per cent, but Sunshine and Albion scored a 74 in the study.
Out of the other Brimbank postcodes, Tullamarine came in second at 71, Keilor East third with 70 and Derrimut fourth on 68.
A quarter of the Sunshine residents who responded to the survey said they spent more time grooming their four-legged friends than themselves.
In addition, more than 80 per cent spend more time with their dogs each month than they do with their partners.
Dog owners in Keilor were ranked lowest in the municipality, achieving just 55 on the doggy devotion scoreboard.
However, all other Brimbank suburbs gained totals of between 60-67 per cent on the issue of canine caring.
Keilor Downs, Taylors Lakes and Brooklyn scored 66, while St Albans, Deer Park, Burnside, Caroline Springs, Kealba and Keilor Park reached 65 and Ardeer 63.
