Bring out your banjos!

HOBSONS Bay will once again be home to the sounds of fiddles, banjos, guitars and folk music as the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club present the 2012 Newport Folk Festival.
Williamstown North Ward Councillor Peter Hemphill said the music festival will run from 6 to 8
July with events at several venues along Mason and Market Streets.
“Now in its fifth year, the Newport Folk Festival gets better each year, the committee of the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club work hard to provide a broad and inclusive program with something for everyone,” Cr Hemphill said.
“It features great folk musicians from within Melbourne and country Victoria. The festival’s reputation has grown to the extent where it now attracts talented musicians from interstate.”
Cr Hemphill said the festival offered local residents and ‘folkies’ opportunities to participate and to learn, and “to experience a wonderful sense of community”.
The event links about 10 venues all within walking distance of each other, including The Substation, the Newport Scout Hall and the Newport Bowls Club.
Featured events include a special presentation of Ned Kelly – the Narrative Concert, a multimedia show with a live six-piece band, an opening concert, multiple music performances, interactive workshops and a unique skype concert.
