ON THE same day champion horse Starchine prepared for its last race in Victoria, punters were treated to a fascinating afternoon’s racing at the Werribee Racing Club.
The eight-race card had something for everyone with the honours split on the day between the favourites and the outsiders.
The biggest surprise came in the day’s second race, the Star News Group Maiden Plate, with 26-1 shot Eat The House Down upsetting the short priced favourite Prince Stratum.
Jumping from barrier three with jockey Luke Currie on board, Eat The House Down also paid $5.40 for the place while the quinella returned $14.60.
Also getting one up for the underdogs was Grey Giggle in race five, which paid $10.10 while Top Tier in race seven crossed the line first at $13.
The remaining races were divided up by the favourites with Starchine, Pentimento, Excited Spirit and Waving all claiming their respective races.
In what has already been an outstanding season for the Werribee Racing Club, there appears to be no slowing down with more quality fields just around the corner.
The club’s next race day will take place on Saturday 6 April.
