THERE was major cause for celebration at the Williamstown Football Club last week with two former players upgraded onto senior AFL playing lists for the 2013 season.
Jack Frost (Collingwood) and Brett Goodes (Western Bulldogs) can now be selected for their respective AFL sides at any time throughout the year.
Frost impressed onlookers throughout the NAB Cup, holding down a key position on the Magpies backline while Goodes has provided significant run in the back half for the Bulldogs.
Williamstown football manager Chris Dixon was delighted to hear the news.
“It’s great to see both boys elevated after their hard work over the pre-season,” he said.
“As a club it’s always rewarding seeing your players move on to the next level and we’re hopeful that both players will get an opportunity early on in the year.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Seagulls head coach Peter German, who worked with both players last season.
“We got Jack Frost from the Sandringham Dragons across the other side of the bay,” German said.
“He basically had to drive past another three VFL clubs to get to Williamstown. For him to get firstly, rookied and then upgraded is fantastic.
“Brett Goodes is just an outstanding person. He was asked to train with the Western Bulldogs and they always knew he could play. It was probably just a matter of if his body could cope with it.
“I think it is a great reward and a great story and one that is still to be played out for him.”
Another former Williamstown player Dane Rampe is also in the mix for a rookie elevation with Sydney having a list spot available after Alex Johnson was moved to the long term injury list.
Rampe has impressed in NAB Cup games to date and is a chance to be promoted before round one.
