Cuckoo robbers make a meal of it

POLICE arrested a 37-year-old Brooklyn man on Monday after an attempted armed robbery in which a 35-year-old Belgrave woman, believed to be the man’s accomplice, was shot.
A man and woman approached the Cuckoo Restaurant in Olinda about 12.30am on Monday, confronting a worker in the car park.
They then demanded the worker hand over a plastic bag, which the couple apparently thought contained the day’s takings, but in fact contained day-old bread rolls.
It is thought that the man then accidentally shot his female accomplice in the hip, before fleeing the scene.
The woman later went to the William Angliss Hospital and was then transferred to the Alfred Hospital with serious injuries.
A man was arrested about 5.30am on Monday, after Special Operations Group police went to an address in Belgrave, believed to be the woman’s house.
No restaurant workers were injured in the incident.
A police spokeswoman said police would be executing search warrants and conducting further interviews before laying charges.
