WILLIAMSTOWN Botanic Gardens, the oldest botanic gardens in Victoria, is receiving extra attention as part of a rejuvenation program.
Works currently underway include reinstating a flagpole, pine pruning and planting, restoring the wrought iron entrance gates, replacing metal plinths around lawns, re-introducing buffalo grass lawns and pond and statue restoration.
Hobsons Bay Ward councillor Angela Altair said the works were part of a long-term program developed in conjunction with the council’s Landscape Advisory Group.
“This year marks the 150th anniversary of the site being proclaimed a botanic garden,” Cr Altair said.
