SUNSHINE Heights Western Tigers defeated the Keilor Wolves last weekend 9-0 in the final match of the Men’s Metropolitan League North-West soccer competition. It was a fairytale finish for the Tigers – most of the players are Sudanese refugees and Brimbank City Council, Football Federation Victoria and the Sunshine Heights Cricket Club banded together to get the club on their feet. Player-coach David Nyuol Vincent said the club had underestimated its own talent and had finished second out of nine teams in the home-and-away season. “Winning encourages people to respect us and helps counter some of the negative perceptions of the Sudanese community. The effect on the Sudanese and broader African communities has been extraordinary,” Mr Vincent said. 70978 Picture: ANDREA DRURY
