BRIMBANK Little Athletics Centre has already won a race before the new season has even begun.
They were named the best little athletics facility in the Western Region and the fourth best in the state by Little Athletics Victoria.
Brimbank Little Athletics Centre president Dennis Thornton said it was a great reward for the hard work everyone has put into the club.
“Our aim is for kids to come here and have fun. Some kids want to be better than others but we treat them all the same,” he said.
“I haven’t got kids involved anymore but I still want to be involved and help keep kids off the streets.”
Despite the award, Thornton and the club has no plans to slow down and are always looking for ways to improve the way things are run.
“The committee do really well in the way they organise and run everything. It’s not just one or two people working hard, it’s a combination of everyone doing their bit to allow things to run smoothly,” he said.
“Our aim is just to keep improving generally. We are pretty proud of what we have achieved so far.”
On the eve of the new season Brimbank is not just in a healthy position off the track.
Last year they had 200 kids registered for Little Athletics and are hoping for a similar number again this year.
“We want to get as many kids involved in Little Athletics as we can, for the right reasons. It’s not about how many we have it’s about making sure they want to be here as well,” Thornton said.
