Major drug bust

WERRIBEE Police have taken $800,000 worth of cannabis off the streets after they executed search warrants at a Wyndham Vale house last week.

At 6pm on Sunday members of the Tasking Unit swooped on a house in Grovedale Way and arrested a 54-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, both from Wyndham Vale.

Around 200 mature plants, each with a value of up to $4000, were discovered in the house.

Sergeant Matt Kershaw from the Tasking Unit told Star: “The house was draining a lot of power because they had so many leads going in and out of every room, it was causing outages in the street.”

Police monitored the house for 10 days to assess the travel patterns of the man and woman before executing their warrants on Sunday night.

“There was a double bed set up in one of the rooms but the rest of the house was fully converted to a drug lab,” Sgt Kershaw said.

“Both houses on either side of this one are still only frames and it is a fairly quiet street.

“At times they left the garage door open and you could see a weight machine and a baby crib, so it looked like a normal house from the outside.”

The couple who allegedly ran the lab were remanded in custody following an out of sessions court hearing and will appear again in court in January.

Sergeant Kershaw said information from the community often helped the police discover new drug labs.
