AFTER decades of being part of the calisthenics community, two women from Melbourne’s West have decided to combine their skills and knowledge and open a school in Ravenhall.
Long-time calisthenics enthusiasts Kim Dunstan and Katie McGuigan will merge years of experience in the calisthenics arena when they unveil K&K calisthenics this week.
Co-principal Kim said the all-inclusive club offers a positive outlet for girls, boys and ladies looking for a fun way to get fit, make friends and feel part of the community.
Kim, who first began calisthenics in 1974 as a shy youngster, said the artistic sport involves participants performing choreographed routines to music and pupils can compete at local and state levels.
She said the skills involved in calisthenics include gymnastics, ballet, singing, acting, marching, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance and said it is the perfect way to improve self-confidence and personal growth and offers participants a chance to be part of a team.
“At K&K Calisthenics, our vision and mission is to inspire and support our pupils while promoting teamwork, confidence and self-esteem within an active, safe and fun-filled environment,” she said.
“Calisthenics promotes all of these qualities, while having lots of fun along the way.”
