FEBRUARY marks the start of ovarian cancer awareness month and many organisations and locals are getting behind the national campaign.
One of the most popular events on this month’s calendar is the Brazilian Butterfly Queen of the Lake fun run.
Women are being encouraged to join in the fun and become queen for the morning while celebrating women’s health and fitness on Sunday 9 February.
Altona North resident Tiffany Lucas said she’s known as a princess among her friends and can’t wait to take part in the event.
“It’s a good thing for the girls to do together and the fact that it supports ovarian cancer, it’s a fantastic cause,” Ms Lucas said.
“It’s great to support a cause that a lot of people know a lot about but don’t know how to help out,” she said.
Ms Lucas will be joined by her friends and she has even encouraged work colleagues to jump on board.
“It’s about making people aware and letting them know there’s something like this to support such a wonderful cause,” Ms Lucas said.
“And it’s about trying to get as much people involved,” she said. “All the money is going towards the cause, so every little bit helps.”
Ovarian Cancer Australia’s national Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month campaign is aimed to highlight the symptoms of ovarian cancer and to raise funds for the programs.
Brazilian Butterfly Queen of the lake raised more than $23,000 last year for the cause.
