Disabled get the full facts

By Cameron Weston
DISABLED people in Hobsons Bay will soon have better access to information about services and mobility issues in the municipality.
Hobsons Bay City Council will release two publications later this month:a booklet called ‘Services and Information for People with Disabilities’ and the ‘Hobsons Bay Mobility Guide’, a brochure sized map pointing out disabled toilets, parking and other features in Altona, Laverton, Newport and Williamstown.
Helen Adams from the Western Region Disability Network said the publications were a “brilliant idea” that had worked very well in other municipalities in the past.
“Knowing where you can park or where facilities are is an absolute must for disabled people,” she said.
Mayor Carl Marsich said access to information for disabled people was vital to break down barriers and create a truly inclusive community in Hobsons Bay.
“These publications will be a vital resource in supporting and helping people with disabilities participate as fully as possible in the life of the local community,” he said.
