MELTON residents will soon be able to enjoy state-of-the-art library facilities with the much-anticipated Melton Library and Learning Hub officially opening in June.
After more than 18 months, thousands of construction hours, and tonnes of glass, timber and concrete, the library is set to formally open its doors on Saturday 15 June, to the delight of local residents and councillors.
The official opening will feature fun activities for the whole family, and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, guided tours of the building, a sausage sizzle, face painting as well as roving performers and musicians.
There will also be author talks in the 80-seat auditorium including headline speaker Hilary Badger, Bernard Caleo, Lili Wilkinson and James Phelan.
City of Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik said the council was extremely proud of the new facility.
“The Melton Library and Learning Hub is a multi-million dollar investment in our community. It has a central focus on lifelong learning and community activity, and is a tremendous asset for the Melton township,” Cr Majdlik said.
“The hub will meet the needs of current residents and has the capacity to cater for our rapidly growing population into the future.”
The Five Star Green Star library will be spread over two levels, and is more than four times bigger than the previous Melton library. It will also boast an impressive suite of services, programs and facilities for the community.
The Melton Library and Learning Hub will be open from 9am on weekdays, with extended opening hours until 8.30pm Monday to Thursday. Saturday hours have also been extended until 4pm.
