THE Williamstown Motorcycle Club is not fighting shy to reveal its softer side with a charitable donation to the Williamstown Hospital.
The motorcycle club has been supporting the hospital for many years, providing donations for much-needed equipment.
This year, the club worked with The Western Health Foundation to gain an understanding of the equipment the hospital needed.
Williamstown Hospital director of nursing let the foundation know that the hospital would benefit from a state-of-the-art Hover Jack and Hover Matt.
Recognised as the industry standard for safe patient lifting, the Hover Jack Air Patient Lift allows caregivers to safely lift patients who have fallen without gathering a lift team.
Once the Hover Jack lift is inflated, the Hover Matt air transfer mattress can be used with the same air supply unit for safe and easy lateral patient transfer to a bed or stretcher.
The equipment is great for extremely heavy patients or the elderly and frail with expected fractures.
And with 93 per cent of patients who are admitted to the subacute services at The Williamstown Hospital over the age of 65, the latest equipment will prove handy.
The equipment is not cheap, with the Western Health Foundation matching the donation of The Williamstown Motorcycle Club to allow for the purchase of the whole kit for the hospital.
Williamstown Motorcycle Club president Sandy Ellul, who was at the hospital last week to hand over the equipment and watch a demonstration, said it was great to see the money going to a good cause.
“It is money raised for a worthwhile cause in our community,” he said.
Hospital trusts, foundations and corporate relations manager Simonne Michelle-Wells said they were very grateful for the donation that would have a significant impact on the patients at Williamstown Hospital.
