TALENTED teenager Crystal Li has designs on a career in either fashion or music.
The Laverton Secondary College student took up the violin four years ago but also loves fashion drawing.
The 14-year-old has entered her clothing concept illustrations in the nation-wide Wool4Skool competition.
Crystal said she drew inspiration for her designs from flowers and the Australian rainforest.
“I found many amazing Australian flowers in the books and I used some of them for my designs,” she said.
“I want to describe the fragile beauty of these flowers with my knitted dresses and accessories.”
The Year 9 pupil said she has loved art since she was in kindergarten.
“When I was small my Mum bought lots of stuff and showed me how to put it all together, and she reads lots of fashion magazines,” she said.
Crystal said enjoyed designing dresses and was inspired by her mother.
“It’s fun and you can make beautiful pieces,” she said.
The young Williams Landing resident said she practised the violin for up to three hours per day but loved drawing just as much.
“Both of them are really important to me,” she said.
Laverton Secondary College art and design teacher Aida Hadzikadic praised Crystal’s dedication and talent.
Ms Hadzikadic said her own mother, a fashion and graphic designer, was impressed by Crystal’s designs.
