IT IS not double trouble but rather a triple treat for Newport father Ryan Ala when he gets home from work every day.
Four months ago the proud dad welcomed twins Gianluca and Sebastian into the world after his wife Mirella gave birth for a second time.
The twin’s older sister, three-year-old Emelia, was delighted to discover she was going to have two new brothers.
Mr Ala said it was “a very big surprise” when the couple found out they were having twins.
While Mrs Ala has two sets of first cousins who are twins, Mr Ala has no family history of double births.
After the boys were born, Mr and Mrs Ala joined the Westgate Multiple Birth Association.
Mrs Ala said she had enjoyed getting breastfeeding advice, finding out where to get twin-specific equipment and attending a sleeping seminar through the group.
“I guess the challenge for me is how to help and support Mariella as much as I can,” Mr Ala said.
“I help out as much as I can with nappies, changing clothes and keeping Emelia occupied.
“It’s a three-way balancing act.”
With Father’s Day approaching on Sunday, Mr Ala advised other would-be parents to spend time with their partners and children.
“I guess to me it’s to celebrate being a dad, enjoying time as a family and I appreciate my Dad and my father-in-law as well,” he said.
Mr Ala said he enjoyed seeing his three children after arriving home after work.
“It’s the best thing about being a dad and it’s what I look forward to every day,” he said.
