Flood fail tale

A POLICE helicopter was called to rescue an Altona man who drove through floodwater in his four-wheel drive.
On Saturday 18 August, the young motorist tried to drive his vehicle across an inundated Racecourse Rd at the Kororoit Creek crossing in Altona.
Sergeant Stephen Bosnar said the 24-year-old was unable to escape from the car as it sank into the water.
“The lone driver became trapped in his vehicle in the fast flowing waters as his vehicle became submerged,” he said.
“It was a decision we are sure he now regrets.”
Hobsons Bay police, a Victoria Police helicopter and MFB Rescue attended the scene and rescued the man from the flooding.
The driver was assessed as medically stable after his ordeal despite suffering mild hyperthermia.
“Arrangements were being made for the car to be retrieved when the water subsides,” Sgt Bosnar said.
“The message from police is to use common sense and do not take unnecessary risks with flooded roads.”
The Victorian SES also advises people to never walk or ride through floodwater.
