SUZIE Erickson can spin a great yarn whether she is crocheting or creative writing.
The Williamstown resident is among more than 30 artists whose work will feature at an exhibition of fashion, jewellery and accessories.
‘It’s Art Wear It – A Romantic Interlude’ will be on at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre in Altona for two weeks from Friday 7 September.
Apart from craft Ms Erickson’s other passion is writing short stories – especially romances.
Across the past six months she has created around 40 individual pieces for the Louis Joel show.
“I’ve haven’t been able to write as I’ve been too busy crocheting lately,” Ms Erickson said.
The multi-talented artist took up crocheting when five years old.
“It’s a lot quicker than knitting and there’s so much scope with different textures and patterns you can create practically anything,” she said.
“I tend to start out and see what happens and see it develop and grow.
“It’s the same thing as when you write, you can let your imagination go.”
Ms Erickson also teaches crocheting on Saturdays at Spotlight in Braybrook and on Mondays from 7-9pm at the Spotswood Community House.
Her work has feature on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens magazine and inside other publications.
Ms Erickson has three children and her daughter Eileen has even inherited her mother’s talent.
The young woman enjoys knitting rabbits which will also feature in the Louis Joel exhibition.
