TAYLORS Lakes progressed through to the Essendon District Football League Division One preliminary final on Sunday with an impressive 20-point win over Glenroy.
The Lions were on top for the majority of the contest with the margin shooting out to as much as 49 points at three-quarter time.
A final quarter flourish from Glenroy added some respectability to the scoreboard but there was no raining on the Lions party in the 14.12 (96) to 10.16 (76) win.
Taylors Lakes will now take on Airport West in a preliminary final this weekend.
In other EDFL results, Keilor’s late season charge towards finals came to an end with the Blues going down by nine points to Essendon Doutta Stars on Saturday.
The Blues were up against it from the first bounce, not only needing to win the match but also needing other final round results to go their way.
However, the Stars proved too strong throughout the early stages of the match, opening up a 30-point lead at half-time and holding on for the 9.7 (61) to 8.4 (52) win.
Jamie Papalia was named best on ground for Keilor while Jarrod Garth finished the match with two goals.
Ultimately, even a win wouldn’t have been enough to secure the Blues a finals berth with Maribyrnong Park’s 78 point final round win sinking the finals hopes of Pascoe Vale, Essendon Doutta Stars, Keilor and Oak Park.
Keilor now finish the season in seventh spot on the ladder with a 7-11 win/loss record.
It was also a disappointing end to the season for Hillside with the Sharks dumped from the Division Two finals series after losing to Moonee Valley by 25 points in Saturday’s preliminary final.
The Valley held a 10 point lead going into the final quarter before kicking away to the 14.7 (91) to 10.6 (66) win.
Despite the loss, Chris Metcher was outstanding for Hillside to be named best on ground while Anthony Harvey booted four goals.
Blaise Ferraro was the only other multiple goal scorer for the Sharks, finishing the match with two majors.
