THE Castrol Small Ford Sunday is set to be a big occasion in Williamstown on 3 February.

The annual family event will be held at Seaworks and feature many models of small and medium-sized Fords, from Anglias to Zephyrs.

The day is staged by the Rallye Sport Owners Club of Victoria (RSOCV).

Truganina resident Peter Rachwalski is a past RSOCV president and present events co-ordinator.

He is the proud owner of two bright red 1979 Zetec-powered RS2000 Ford Escorts, of which only 4000 were produced.

Mr Rachwalski said he first saw the car as a Year 8 student reading a motoring magazine during art class.

“For me, it’s a small rear-wheel drive car with a lot of motorsport heritage and it puts a smile on your face when you drive it,” he said.

Nowadays he not only owns a pair of the vehicles but regularly races at motorsport venues like Phillip Island and Sandown.

Last year five RSOCV members took part in a six-hour relay event held by the Alfa Romeo Club of Australia in their Ford Escorts.

“The team was called Escorts by the Hour and we won the award for best-named team,” Mr Rachwalski said.

The RSOCV has around 150 members including some from overseas.

“What I enjoy is the friendship, sharing similar interests, making lots of good friends and the good times we have,” Mr Rachwalski said.

He said all families and car enthusiasts – even Holden fans – would be welcomed at the Castrol Small Ford Sunday.

The event will feature more than 250 cars between 9am-5pm on Sunday at Seaworks, 82 Nelson Place, Williamstown.

Entry :$10 to display vehicles and the viewing public will be asked to make a charitable gold-coin donation. See www.smallfordsunday.com for more information.
