BRAD and Claudelle Dalgleish work tirelessly to support the Brimbank community.
The Caroline Springs couple both volunteer with the Keilor Park SES unit and juggle two young boys and part time work.
But they don’t do it for the reward or recognition; rather they are content to simply help out people in need.
“We’re not there for any rewards, we’re just there because we enjoy what we do,” Mr Dalgleish said.
“Helping the community is enough of a reward.”
Mr Dalgleish, who is the unit controller at Keilor Park, said he volunteers his time most nights of the week and often works with police to co-ordinate events for the community.
And while most couples can’t fathom working with their partners, his wife took on the position a decade ago because she wanted to spend more time with him.
It’s not only the local community that the couple volunteer their time for. Mr Dalgleish recently went to Queensland to help victims of the devastating floods.
“I had to leave straight away and didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, but I got video messages and that can be hard.”
He said the unit, which consists of about 50 volunteers, can get up to 300 calls within an hour, particularly in bad weather and the gratitude shown when the crew arrives is heart-warming.
