MOTORISTS are being warned to adhere to temporary road signs on the corner of Coburns and Barries roads or risk facing hefty fines.
Acting Senior Seregeant Chris Stuhldreier from the Melton Highway Patrol said motorists that continue to flout the law and turn left into Barries Rd from Coburns Rd, despite signage waring them not to, will face fines of up to $180.
He said earlier this month 20 infringement notices were handed out in the span of 10 to 20 minutes at the notorious black spot.
Acting Sen Sgt Stuhldreier said while road works continued on this stretch of road, the police would continue to enforce the law.
Meanwhile Melton Highway Patrol, with assistance from Brimbank Highway Patrol, conducted Operation Roadnet on 17 October from 6pm to 2am.
The patrols set up two booze busses on the eastern entrance to Melton.
Leading Senior Constable Allan Edwards said overall 1175 tests were conducted, with three drivers charged with exceeding the alcohol limit and one driver charged after testing positive to illicit drugs. A further two drivers were charged with unlicensed driving, two for driving while disqualified and another two for exceeding the speed limit.
Leading Sen Const Edwards said two vehicles were found to be unregistered and two vehicles were impounded as a result of the driver being unlicensed or suspended and having prior convictions for that offence.
One of the suspended drivers was intercepted after attempting to avoid the booze bus and driving through a line of traffic cones in an attempt to return to the Western Freeway.
