A TEENAGER who was shot near St Albans Secondary College last Tuesday reportedly returned to school two days later in a ‘fine’ condition.
The 17-year-old male victim was shot at from the window of a car, as he walked along Beaver St shortly after midnight.
The boy was reportedly with a group of other students, travelling to school to plan a flour-bombing as part of a ‘muck-up day’ prank.
After the shooting, the student was taken to Sunshine Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.
Detective Senior Constable Paul Ziebell told Channel 7 police believed the boy was possibly fired at with a shotgun.
“He had two wounds – the first wound was to the right side of the head and the second wound was to the right arm,” Det Sen Const Ziebell said.
“It has the ability to be a fatal shooting, of course.”
Detectives were still investigating the shooting as Star went to print.
One of the teenager’s friends told Star he saw the victim back at school last Thursday.
“I’ve been in touch with the student and his family and he is fine,” St Albans Secondary College principal Kerrie Dowsley said.
“The incident you refer to took place away from the school, outside school hours and, as such, was not related to our school’s procedures or events.
“We always have security checking the school at this time of the year, and will continue to do that.
“As it was overnight and away from the school, most students weren’t aware of it when they were celebrating their final day.”
Ms Dowsley said the school held several events to celebrate the end of Year 12.
“As in other years, this year’s Year 12s enjoyed themselves, and behaved at all times in a manner that was respectful of themselves, each other, and the wider school community,” she said.
“They celebrated together with their teachers, co-ordinators and the rest of the school. We are very proud of them.”
