MELTON City Council will launch an innovative community-based project to tackle graffiti head-on.
The Graffiti Hot Spots Project will be delivered at Hillside shopping precinct and Recreation Reserve and Staughton St shopping precinct in Melton to encourage a neighbourhood response to problem graffiti.
The project aims to promote safety in the local community by increasing awareness about graffiti prevention and improve visual amenity in the municipality.
Mayor Kathy Majdlik said the council wanted to work with the community to deter vandalism in the area.
“We want to work together with key stakeholders to promote community safety and improve the visual amenity of our city. We are asking people to get involved and help to develop locally targeted solutions to graffiti,” Cr Majdlik said.
She encouraged residents to attend an upcoming forum that will look at ways to combat graffiti specifically in the Hillside shopping precinct and Recreation Reserve.
“I encourage residents, traders and local community groups to attend the community forum to participate in an assessment of a specified graffiti hotspot. Information from these audits will inform recommendations for that specific site.”
The forum will be held at Hillside Community Centre, Recreation Reserve, Royal Crescent, Tuesday, 7 May from 6pm. A light supper will be provided.
Consultation for the Staughton St shopping precinct will take place at a later date.
