PASTIZZIS and Kinnies will be in abundance later this month as Melton’s Maltese community comes together as part of the city’s Heritage Week celebrations.
Making up 20 per cent of residents in Rockbank, Plumpton and Mt Cottrell, the Maltese community has made a significant contribution to the city and will enjoy a free lunch on Saturday, 27 April.
Rockbank resident Victor Pace said the lunch would offer past and present residents a chance to chat about old times.
Mr Pace, who has been a living in the City of Melton for over three decades, encouraged younger residents with Maltese ancestry to attend the event and learn about their history.
Another Rockbank resident Bill Tabone said the lunch would include traditional Maltese cuisine and folklore music.
“We’ll make a fun afternoon of it,” Mr Tabone said.
“It will give us a chance to get together and talk about why people came to Melton and our experiences.”
The council will also be collecting stories of the Maltese settlement in the municipality and attendees will have the opportunity to share their memories and ideas for future history projects with local volunteers.
The event will be held on Saturday, 27 April from 12.30pm to 4pm at the Rockbank Community Hall, Old Leakes Rd, Rockbank.
