MELTON Police have made 103 arrests and seized more than $600,000 in property since it launched its Burglary Unit in June this year.
The figures come as police put offenders on notice saying they will continue to crack down on robberies.
Detective Senior Constable Ross McCann said the unit has conducted 22 search warrants and was pleased with the results, but warned residents to remain vigilant.
Det Snr Const McCann said thefts from vehicles remained high with motorists still failing to lock their vehicles and remove visible property from the interior.
He said home owners were also guilty of leaving their front door open and warned this was a sure way to welcome intruders into any property.
“People need to be vigilant. These are different times, it’s a different era,” Det Snr Const McCann said.
In a recent arrest police apprehended three offenders who were responsible for a spate of robberies throughout the municipality.
They were charged with in excess of 70 offences each and it is alleged they were responsible for stealing property to the value of $120,000.
Melton Inspector Mario Fiorentino said the burglary unit was doing a fantastic job and really “kicking goals”.
Inspector Fiorentino also urged residents to remain aware of the importance of securing their property.
He said garage doors were often left open and expensive tools were a prime target.
“It’s something we try and push but people are very complacent.”
