YOUNGSTERS across Melton had their say last week as part of this year’s Youth Forum.
More than 20 young people attended the event which focused on topics relevant to youth in the community including public transport, making public spaces more youth friendly and creating solutions to crime.
The participants represented a wide cross-section from the community including school students, higher education students and young people in the workforce.
A host of recommendations were made at the forum including more supervised events in public spaces for young people, later bus timetables especially on weekends and increased security at transport hubs such as train stations.
Melton Shire Council mayor Justin Mammarella, said the outcomes of the forum would help shape the council’s future decisions on youth issues.
“It was fantastic to see a diverse group of young people sharing their ideas and suggestions for our community,” Cr Mammarella said.
“Youth forums are an ideal opportunity for young people to give council feedback and suggestions on what is important to them.
“Young people are the future of our community and it’s important that we give them the opportunity to help shape our future.”
