CHRIS Falks has always loved singing and now the experienced teacher wants to pass on her passion for music to other Brimbank residents.
Ms Falks, from Community Music Victoria, will facilitate a new singing group to be launched at the Cairnlea Community Hub in February.
The group was made possible through a Brimbank City Council grant and will allow community members to be mentored as singing group leaders in Neighbourhood Houses across Brimbank.
Volunteers will be given comprehensive training in community singing teaching methods, accessible repertoire and group facilitation skills, as well as running weekly singing sessions with support from a mentor.
Ms Falks, who also mentors in Delahey, said the new group was ideal for a wide range of people, including those who have sung before and those who want to try it out for the first time.
“Everyone will get something out of it,” she said.
“The group is for all people; people who are curious and just want to see what it’s all about.”
She encourages people from all walks of life to get involved, and said this is not only a chance to learn how to sing, but also a great opportunity to develop friendships.
“I encourage everyone to rock up. People often learn how to sing better because they are with other people.”
