SAMUEL L. Jackson, Geoffrey Rush and Eric Bana are among several famous faces that could be lured to Sunshine if a new cinematic venture gets the green light.
The Sunshine Business Association is planning to host a short film festival in Sunshine in a bid to attract national and international interest in the suburb.
Dubbed “Living in a land down under – visions of living in a multicultural society”, the festival would run for a week, with films to be screened at Sunshine’s Village Cinemas.
The event will be open to secondary and university students, along with amateur film-makers.
Association president Bruce White said the venture had already won support from Brimbank Council and Village Cinemas but was currently seeking expressions of interest from schools and film-makers interested in participating.
He said the event could be held annually, putting Sunshine on the map.
“Our core objectives are to hold an annual event that promotes Sunshine on an international level, to engage the kids and to drive foot traffic into our CBD and local businesses,” Mr White said.
Mr White said the association had made contact with agents for celebrities, including Jackson, Rush and Bana in a bid to scout for judges for the competition.
Discussions are also under way with local businesses to help sponsor the event.
“It’s still early days but we’re getting a lot of positive feedback and interest,” Mr White said.
