HOUSEMATES Michael Sneddon and Ryan Mathews have undertaken a campaign to raise money and awareness for prostate and breast cancer.
The young guns for Williamstown have launched The Long Road Ahead “help us, help them” campaign, in which Ryan will run from Adelaide to Melbourne for the double cause.
Michael said they deliberately chose to support both prostate and breast cancer.
“We wanted to promote something for both not just females but males,” he said.
Ryan will run about 800 kilometres in 12 days commencing with a small support crew including Michael on the road with him.
Ryan said they came up with the idea four months ago.
“I wanted to do something with my running and help people,” he said.
“There are a few people in my family who have been affected by breast cancer and my friend’s grandfather died of prostate cancer.”
While Ryan has been busy training for his big run, Michael has been busy organising.
“The organising has been pretty 50/50 but I’ve had a bit more experience in contacting people through my promoting work,” Michael said.
The guys have been campaigning businesses and the community hard for sponsorship and support.
“We’ve both never done anything like this before so we don’t really know what to expect but we’re hoping to raise $20,000,” Michael said.
A benefit night will be held at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria on Nelson Place, Williamstown on Saturday 9 July – the night before the boys head to Adelaide for their Long Road Ahead.
Donations to The Long Road Ahead Appeal are tax deductible.
