A SPOTSWOOD milk bar owner has been charged with deception after she allegedly stole money from an elderly customer.
It is alleged the 35-year-old woman overcharged the 92-year-old victim more than $3000 on her credit card over a number of visits to the shop.
Police said the woman would allegedly type an additional amount into the EFTPOS machine without the victim realising.
The elderly customer reported the theft to police who issued a search warrant at the shop owner’s house and seized a number of documents linked to fraudulent transactions.
The milk bar is still operating.
Detective Senior Sergent Kerin Moloney said the investigations were ongoing but at this stage it was not known if the shopkeeper had any other victims.
“I would urge all elderly members of the community and their families to ensure the correct amount is displayed on the EFTPOS machine before typing in your pin number.”
Police said anyone with concerns should contact their bank in the first instance and then Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The woman was bailed and is set to face court in August.
