STAR journalists Vanessa Chircop and Laura Wakely were awarded Best Suburban / Regional Report for their ‘Stop the Violence’ series at last week’s Eliminating Violence Against Women Media Awards.
The series, which was written over a three month period and ran across Star’s west editions, received high praise from the judges.
“This sustained campaign raises awareness on a range of issues that are well-targeted and retain a local focus. They draw on the accounts of professionals from women’s services, police and courts as well as survivors to expose the unacceptably high rates of family violence and their impact on the community”.
The awards recognise journalists for excellence in the reporting of violence against women, in print, television, radio and online media.
Last week was the second consecutive year Ms Chircop was recognised at the awards, last year taking out Best Feature in Print.
