MELTON women are being encouraged to don their runners and step onto the squash court in a bid to get fit and make new friends.
The Hits and Giggles series, which kicked off this week and will run for another five weeks, offers women across the City of Melton the opportunity to escape their busy lifestyles for an hour each week and enjoy the company of other participants.
The program involves a one-hour coaching session each week and is ideal for residents looking to improve their fitness, while also providing a children’s fitness program at the same time – making it a winner for active mums.
Squash Victoria executive director Fiona Young said Hits and Giggles provided the perfect stepping stone to get back into sport in a social environment with only a commitment of one hour a week.
“The beauty of this program, supported by VicHealth, is that it is designed for any fitness and skill level and allows participants to be as competitive or as social as they want,” Ms Young said.
“Squash is the perfect game to help you get fit.
“A 60-minute game of squash can burn up to 840 calories, equivalent of three snickers bars, as well as giving excellent all round health benefits, particularly for the heart and lungs.”
Hits and Giggles will be available at Squash Logic Melton on Tuesday mornings from 9.30 to 10.30.
