PORT Macquarie Surf Club is set to receive a $110,000 boost if the Coalition is elected to government on Saturday.
The announcement was made by Shadow Minister for Sport Luke Hartsuyker and Nationals candidate for Lyne David Gillespie last week.
The funding will be used to address issues with the club’s roof, fire exits, safety railings and to build a disabled car park.
“Surf clubs are an important part of Australian culture and provide a very valuable service to the community, particularly here in Port Macquarie,” Mr Hartsuyker said.
“Surf club volunteers save lives. It is critical that they have a clubhouse that isn’t falling apart around them and is up to the job.
“I’m pleased to announce that as a result of David and club secretary Jade Zaicew’s hard work, the Nationals and Liberals have agreed to provide $110,000 to help undertake this work if we are elected to government.”
Mr Gillespie paid tribute to the team at the Port Macquarie Surf Club and the important work that they undertake.
“Jade and the team here at Port Macquarie Surf Club approached me earlier this year and told me that they were facing some serious building issues,” Mr Gillespie said.
“I met with Jade again earlier this month to see the issues first-hand and it was clear that something had to be done. Their roof leaks and they need new fire exits, railings and a disabled car park to comply with the applicable building regulations.”
