THE $80 million upgrade of the Kempsey District Hospital reached a milestone last week, with Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner announcing the project’s development application had been submitted to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.
The Member for Oxley, who is based in Wauchope, said it was another crucial step for the redevelopment of the hospital, which would be jointly funded between the state and federal governments.
“The main construction works are scheduled to commence in early 2014 and will include a new hospital building towards the middle of the existing site, refurbishment of vacated and existing spaces and connections between new and existing facilities,” Mr Stoner said.
“The scope of the redevelopment includes service priorities such as a new main entrance and front of house services, and a new and expanded emergency department.
“A new emergency medical unit and medical day stay unit will mean patients get the very best care.”
The new buildings are set to be completed in late 2015, with the refurbishment of the facility to be completed in mid-2016.
